Hednesford Town have beaten off stiff competition to secure the signature of Staffordshire-born former Port Vale striker Danny Turner.

Turner returns to the Pitmen having previously played at Keys Park in the 2020/21 season. The 26-year-old from Stone rose through the youth ranks at Port Vale before going on to make more than 30 senior appearances for the Valiants between 2016 and 2019.

The forward joins the Pitmen after recent spells at step two non-league sides Chester and Leamington. He also boasts experience with Brackley Town and Hyde United amongst others.

Hednesford boss Gavin Hurren is delighted with the addition of Turner who he revealed he has been fond of for some time.

"Dan comes to us with serious pedigree and has played well above the level we’re at now," he said. "I’ve always been a big admirer - he’s clever, quick, and can score goals from across the front line.

"He had a fantastic time at both Chester and Leamington, and he’s joining us after a strong season in step two. He knows the club, he’s a local lad, and he wants to be here, we’ve had to fight off competition from higher up to get him.

"He’s got great character and a real connection to this place. I believe he’s going to be a fan favourite and I’m really looking forward to working with him."

Turner becomes the first forward to join the Pitmen this summer. The club added that more attacking options are set to follow as Hednesford build a squad ready to compete in the Northern Premier League after securing promotion via the play-offs last season.

Speaking on re-joining the club, Turner said: "It means a lot to be coming back to Hednesford. I’ve got a lot of respect for the club and what it stands for, and it’s great to be joining at a time when there’s so much ambition and energy around the place.

"Being from just up the road in Stone, I know how much this club means to people locally and I want to use my experience to help the team push on and make this season a big one."

Elsewhere, Stourbridge have re-signed goalkeeper Charlie Price.

Price joins from Bromsgrove Sporting who he made 49 appearances for last season.

The 31-year-old previously spent six seasons at the Glassboys where he made 191 appearances.
