Proud Marston celebrates Monmore awards double
Trainer Craig Marston is full of pride after his kennel stars scooped back-to-back Monmore Green dog-of-the-month awards.
It has been a successful period for Sedgley-based handler Marston, with Whisky Ernest recognised by the Monmore owners’ association as the top dog for March.
Whisky Copper then got the gong for April after both greyhounds enjoyed a spell of three successive victories at the Wolverhampton track.
“They’ve both done brilliantly for us. It’s nice to have the recognition for their performances and for the owner of both dogs, Ben Owen as he’s a big supporter of the kennel,” said Marston. “Whisky Ernest won all three of his races in March, while Whisky Copper got three in a row during April over two bends. We’re very proud of them both.
“Whisky Copper won at 20/1 in the last of his three wins in a row, too, so that was fantastic.

“He’s won Opens at both The Valley and Crayford and been enjoying the sprint trip here at Monmore recently. He’s off for a few weeks now with a sprained wrist, but we’ll be doing laser treatment to strengthen the area up and we look forward to him being back on the track.
“Whisky Trader is another who has been going up the grades, rising from A6 to A2, and finished third in the last race on Thursday night.
“Our greyhounds have been running well overall, and we’re pleased with how things have been going.”
At Monmore tonight, Marston has both Whisky Glasses and Droopys Moose aiming to clinch back-to-back victories.
The penultimate race this evening is a strong six-bend affair and sees Jonis Taxi looks to complete a hat-trick for trainer Gary Griffiths.
Longacres Porto (Pat Doocey) has finished second to Jonis Taxi twice in recent weeks and will hope third time is the charm.
