Cricket Round-Up: Halesowen beat Shrewsbury to go top of Division One

Former Worcestershire ace Alexei Kervezee hit an outstanding 28-ball 50 to help Halesowen beat Shrewsbury by seven wickets and climb to the top of the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League.

Shrewsbury skipper Lewis Evans won the toss and elected to bat as they reached 90/2 with openers George Hargrave high-scoring at 32 and Peter Clark weighing in with a further 30. 

Will Parton added 24 but Shrewsbury were ultimately unable to deal with Halesowen's bowling. Cian Baker-Smith finished on 4-31 and Hasan Mahmood claimed 4-24 for the home side.

Kervezee put them on course for victory with 50 runs and Chris Whittock and Mahmood registered 32 apiece, as Halesowen leapfrogged their opponents at the league summit.

Wolverhampton climbed into third spot after edging to victory over Harborne at Tettenhall by six wickets. 

Batting first, Reeve Evitts led the way with 42 from 46 balls and Ben Landell struck 31, as Wolverhampton were bowled out for 210. 

Tejas Wagle was the pick of the bowlers for Harborne, taking 4-26.

In response, Harborne started poorly at 29/3 until Wagle hit an unbeaten 96 to haul Harbone back into contention. 

However, they ultimately fell six runs short when William Jones took the final two wickets for Wolverhampton.

Smethwick sit third from bottom and just two points adrift of the foot of the table, after losing by 28 runs against Knowle & Dorridge on home soil.

Oliver Currell smashed an impressive 100 from just 96 balls to put Knowle & Dorridge in the driving seat, before Haris Khan added 41 as they finished their innings 210 all out.

Viken Kedariya led the comeback charge for Smethwick with a 74-ball 83 but they were eventually bowled out for 192 inside 44 overs, with Ruthvik Morajkar and Nick James taking three wickets each.

Elsewhere, Himley's home match against Berkswell was abandoned with the hosts of 89/4. 

In Division Two, Stourbridge prevailed by seven wickets in a low-scoring affair against Coventry & North Warwickshire.

Coventry opened on the bat with Kuldeep Diwan striking 43 from just 36 balls, before they were bowled out for just 93, with Nick Behrendt taking four wickets. 

Stourbridge eased to 94/3 after just 17 overs with opener JS Johal leading the way with an unbeaten 54.

Jujhar Johal put Stourbridge in pole position with an unbeaten 53-ball 54 as they finished 94/3 inside 17 overs.

Kidderminster suffered a narrow defeat at Worfield after losing by six wickets. 

Batting first, Daniel Lategan hit an impressive 96 from 98 balls for Kidderminster and Nathan Jukes also weighed in with 71 to finish 280/4. 

Worfield responded excellently with Will Cook registering 96 and Ross Aucott amassing 65 from only 57 balls. 

Rishin Patabedige (43) and Aman Hussain (40) also added useful runs to guide Worfield to their first victory of the season. 

Old Hill's home match against West Bromwich Dartmouth was abandoned with the hosts at 138/3 after 25.1 overs.
