The United States international striker has not played for 11 months after an Achilles injury sustained last February, which was his second in the space of a year.

The 24-year-old's return from a fourth major fitness setback in a little over two years at The Hawthorns was delayed in late October when he picked up a hamstring injury on return to training with the first-team fold.

Then boss Carlos Corberan said the delay was not a surprise given his time out and that the setback will help Dike in the long term. Just before his exit for Valencia, the former head coach said he had full confidence Dike would get his Albion career going again.

Under the interim management of Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill - who are set to remain in charge for a fifth game at Bournemouth in the FA Cup on Saturday - Dike took his first steps back into team training during the busy spell of games between Christmas and New Year.
