Wolverhampton set to host nine race card on Thursday
Wolverhampton Racecourse hosts its latest all-weather card on Thursday with a nine-race offering in the evening as the cold snap bits across Britain.
Racing on Thursday gets underway at 4.10pm with a restricted novice stakes contest in class five before the action comes to a close just over four hours later at 8.15pm with a class six handicap race.

The opening race of the evening sees a field of ten head to the stalls for the five furlong restricted novice stakes (4.10) where the two-year-old horses take centre stage. Elouise’s Prince was a winner over course and distance 31 days ago and was very tidy when doing so he is taken to follow-up under a penalty here for trainer Robert Cowell. Rock Hunter is another who showed early promise in his career when a good fourth of ten at Chelmsford on his last spin so rates the main danger in the opener.
Race two on the card is in division one of the class five maiden fillies’ stakes (4.40) and it looks to be all about a couple of newcomers. One of them is Cape Flora, a filly that cost a very hefty 260,000 Guineas, closely related to high-profile Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Waldgeist so on paper, looks the one to beat. Falakeyah is another newcomer to note for trainer Owen Burrows, closely related to the useful winner over a mile Rowayeh that looks a likely type on debut as well.
Division two of the same discipline marks race three of the evening at Wolverhampton (5.10) which can go the way of Patagonia Girl from the Hugo Palmer team, a promising type that left her debut effort well behind when finishing second of 14 at Kempton last time out, while the fourth race on the card (5.40) can got the way of Amaysmont for Kevin Frost, a winner last time out at Chelmsford and is bang in form with four wins this year.
A one-mile handicap marks the midway point of the meeting at 6.10 and 11 runners are set to take on the class six contest. Stella Hogan has moved to trainer Mick Appleby in recent weeks, a very shrewd operator in this sphere, so is worth chancing on the pick of form in a race that is tough to unravel and gets the nod ahead of all-weather debutant Sorontar for Hugo Main who should improve from his run at Windsor last time out.
Haku got back to winning ways over course and distance last month for trainer David Loughnane and he looks the one to beat in race six (6.40) in the mile and a half handicap, while the seventh race on the card (7.10) sees Basholo get the nod for trainer Stella Barclay, a three-time course and distance winner that made an encouraging return after five months off when third of eight in a handicap at this course 45 days ago and should be bang in there once again.
Eleven runners will head to the stalls for the penultimate race on Thursday’s card (7.45) and Zousca can bring up a double on the card for David Loughnane, arriving here off a good third of 11 in a Southwell handicap just over a fortnight ago and gets the nod to follow up in the one mile and one furlong contest.
Finally, the Wolverhampton meeting comes to an end with another 11-runner race, this time a handicap in class six (8.15) and preference in the finale heads the way of Alex The Great, a winner of a Southwell race last time out eight days ago and has escaped a penalty from the handicapper for that success. Of his rivals, the main threat comes from Breccia, who took a while to get going when runner-up at this track a couple of months ago but is more than capable of going one better.
