Dunstall racegoers will not be left out of pocket
Racing fans who had purchased tickets for Wolverhampton Racecourse will be able to transfer them to a future meeting or have a refund after the sport was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Yesterday, the British Horseracing Authority announced all racing in Britain had been suspended because of the worldwide pandemic.
The news marked a swift U-turn on Monday’s statement that said British racing would initially run behind closed doors until the end of March.
Wolverhampton Racecourse is owned by Arena Leisure Plc.
And a spokesman for the company confirmed all racegoers who have purchased tickets for upcoming meetings will not be left out of pocket.
“We are obviously hugely disappointed to see racing suspended until at least the end of April but the safety of all participants, as well as the wider society is paramount,” the spokesman said.
“Any customers that have purchased tickets or hospitality for any fixtures at Wolverhampton Racecourse during this time will be eligible to transfer to a future meeting or have a refund.
“They are are asked to contact the racecourse office directly.
“We would like to thank all of our customers, partners and sponsors for their ongoing support during this time, and would like to encourage everyone to continue to follow Government and NHS guidance on protecting their own personal health.”
A statement released by the Board of the British Horseracing Authority said the decision to suspend racing will remain under constant review.
It added: “The formal decision was taken based on the statements made by the government and after consultation with senior industry leaders. Medical advisers to the RCA (Racecourse Association) and the BHA, who have been advising an industry group on the response to the crisis, have also been consulted.
“The BHA took the decision to protect essential emergency services and the health and welfare of staff working in the racing industry.
“Racecourses and racing have obligations to ensure the safety of participants and provide medical cover which clearly cannot be fulfilled in these circumstances.”
