Wolves

Aston Villa have ruled themselves out of a rumoured bid for Wolves captain Danny Batth.

Villa owner Tony Xia said: “At least our part is no rumour.”

Super agent Jorge Mendes and head coach Nuno Espirito Santo have snapped up defensive quartet Willy Boly, Roderick Miranda, Ryan Bennett and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh

Miranda was also preferred on Saturday against Leicester with Batth set to be the odd-man-out vs Middlesbrough.

The Molineux skipper has also been linked with Hull City and Sunderland over the weekend.

West Brom

West Brom are still hopeful of making defensive additions with Napoli’s Ivan Strinic being lined up as a new left-back option.

Tony Pulis faces competition for the 30-year-old from fellow Premier League side Burnley, who have already signed left-back Charlie Taylor from Leeds this summer.

Watford have reportedly stepped up their chase for Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs, after West Brom withdrew their interest in the England defender.

Gibbs is out of contract at the end of the season and the Gunners have made clear they do not see the 27-year-old as part of their long-term plan.

Aston Villa

Sunderland hope to land Ross McCormack on a season-long loan, but Villa would prefer to sell the striker - with reports they want as much as £8million.

The Scot is free to leave Villa Park this summer as Steve Bruce looks to revamp his squad.

Villa have also rubbished reports linking defender Alan Hutton with a move away from Villa park.

The right-back had been linked with a move to Sunderland this summer, but Bruce says he sees Hutton as his first choice right-back.
