Transfer Rumours - July 21
Expressandstar.com bring you all of the latest transfer talk from Wolves, West Brom, Aston Villa and Walsall.
We are not saying they are true – just that they are out there.
WOLVES
The one constant in the rumours about the takeover at Wolves is Jorge Mendes, the super-agent thought to be brokering the sale of the club.
Most recent reports suggest it might be investment company Fosun International - and not Robin Li - as the Chinese billionaire set to buy Wolves.
Mendes remains part of the equation, though and it's thought will play a big role in recruiting players to Molineux should the deal go through.
Three players with links to him having already been mooted for a move in Pele, Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro, who cost French club Monaco £12.5million.
All three were team-mates at Portuguese giants Benfica, where defensive midfielder Pele and winger Costa remain. Fellow wide man Cavaleiro was sold last summer.
WEST BROM
Released West Brom winger Stephane Sessesgnon is in line for a move to French outfit Marseille, who are working on a deal to bring him back to the country.
The Benin international is currently a free agent after his contract at the Hawthorns expired last month and has attracted offers from China and the Middle East.
But the 32-year-old played all of his club football in France before joining Sunderland in 2011, who sold him to Albion for a £5.5million fee two seasons later.
ASTON VILLA
Aston Villa are apparently closing in on a shock move for Algeria striker Islam Slimani, who has a whopping £24m release clause in his contract.
The 28-year-old is coming off one of the best seasons in his career, starring for Portuguese title contenders Sporting Lisbon with 27 goals in 33 games.
A move to Villa, recently relegated to the Championship, would equal the club-record fee with add-ons they paid to sign Darren Bent from Sunderland in 2011.
It would represent a real statement of intent from new Villa owner Tony Xia to get them back into the Premier League, but top-flight Everton are also interested.
WALSALL
All quiet at the Banks's Stadium today.
