Transfer Rumours - July 1
Expressandstar.com bring you all of the latest transfer talk from Wolves, West Brom, Aston Villa and Walsall.
We are not saying they are true – just that they are out there.
WOLVES
Wolves this week denied they have ever made a bid for striker Matt Smith, despite earlier reports that a £750,000 offer has been lodged.
Championship rivals Fulham won't consider selling the 27-year-old until suitable recruits have arrived at Craven Cottage, in any case.
Should the tall forward remain on Wolves boss Kenny Jackett's target list, it could be a waiting game to see if he becomes available.
And Fulham might prefer to only loan him out, as they did to for four months of the last campaign to another second tier side, Bristol City.
WEST BROM
West Brom have been credited with an interest in 23-year-old Atletico Madrid striker Borja Baston, who apparently carries a £18million price tag.
Baston has barely featured for the Spanish club's first-team, but is still considered to be one his country's brightest forward prospects.
He's scored freely in five loan spells away from Madrid, though, and netted 18 goals in 36 games for Eibar in the top-flight last season.
ASTON VILLA
Free agent veteran Dimitar Berbatov has been linked with a move to Villa, as the illustrious Bulgaria international plots his return to the English game.
The 35-year-old starred for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United and also served Fulham, before first heading back overseas for a spell with French side Monaco.
He cut his ties with Greek outfit PAOK Salonika at the end of last season and wants to return to our shores, but accepts it may well be in the Championship.
Newcastle United are thought to have held talks with him, but Villa also offer some name value as a fallen Premier League force looking for instant promotion.
Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan could be making the step back up sooner than expected, if talk of interest from Premier new-boys Middlesbrough comes to fruition.
WALSALL
Walsall are refusing to budge on their £750,000 asking price for star striker Tom Bradshaw, after turning down a second bid from Championship club Barnsley.
The Tykes' improved £350,000 offer was dismissed out of hand, in the week where claims Championship cohorts Rotherham had bid £250,000 turned out to be false.
Other clubs could yet come into the race for the 23-year-old Wales international with Birmingham City, Preston and Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers all keeping tabs.
