Johanna Konta facing hectic schedule
British No 1 Johanna Konta faces another busy day at the Aegon Classic Birmingham today.
Konta moved through to the second round thanks to a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win over Misaki Doi yesterday.
Konta and Heather Watson could both play two matches in one day today in what promises to be a bumper day for ticket holders.
Konta is due to take on Yanina Wickmayer in the second round and, if she wins, will then play either CoCo Vandeweghe or Christina McHale in the quarter-finals.
If Watson overcomes Strycova in the second round she would then take on former Wimbledon semi-finalist Tsvetana Pironkova in the last eight.
After beating Doi, he said: "I'm very happy with getting through my first round here in Birmingham. All first-rounds can be tricky and I had a very tough opponent.
"I was happy with the way I played in the important moments and I'm building on that in my next match. I think I became a little more consistent.
"I was definitely spraying quite a few errors in the first set but that's also adapting to the court and the fact that it hasn't been the easiest conditions, waiting around to play."
Yesterday was an eventful day at the Edgbaston Priory Club, despite rain at the start and end of the day.
There were big wins for Jelena Ostapenko over Petra Kvitova and Wickmayer over Caroline Wozniacki. Ostapenko takes on Madison Keys as part of a Friday line-up.
It also features the resumption of Angelique Kerber's match against Daria Gavrilova and the unfinished contest between Andrea Petkovic and Carla Suarez-Navarro.
The winners of both matches are scheduled to play again today. Having gone a decade without playing another British player on tour, Andy Murray was set to face his second in as many days this afternoon.
The world No 2 beat British No.2 Aljaz Bedene 6-3, 6-4 at Queen's to set up a quarter-final tie with Kyle Edmund, who received a walkover against Paul-Henri Mathieu.
For Murray, this was another stiff examination passed as he maintains his perfect start to a second stint under coach Ivan Lendl and continues his preparations ahead of Wimbledon.
