Pitmen's Patterson to be a party-pooper

Caretaker boss Kyle Patterson wants his Hednesford Town side to end a bad season on a high note.

The Pitmen's relegation from the National League North was sealed last week and they end a miserable campaign against Nuneaton Town tomorrow (3pm).

In the reverse fixture at Keys Park back in October, Nuneaton were 4-2 victors.

And this one is anything but a dead rubber as Nuneaton go into it just one point behind Boston United, who occupy the fifth and final play-off spot, and two adrift of fourth-placed Harrogate Town.

Patterson is aware the Boro will be up for it, in front of what should be a big crowd at Liberty Way, but says his players are determined to restore some pride ahead of next term in the Evo-Stik Premier.

"It is a huge game for them of course, but it is a huge game for us as well," he said.

"We want to win football matches, that does not change, so it should be a good game.

"We always try to give the fans a good performance, obviously it has not happened this season, but we will go and try to win it.

"If that means spoiling the party for them, then so be it."

Patterson said the Pitmen are heading into the clash with a full-strength squad.

He is the fourth man to take charge this season, stepping in after the departure of Frank Sinclair.

"It has been really enjoyable for me, quite hectic, and I am happy to do as the club wishes," he added.
