It is the latest positive news for the club, who recently hosted the County Championships, with five state-of-the-art courts opened with guidance from the LTA.

They become the first club in the country to install LTA accredited LED floodlights on their outdoor courts and the development is will help serve members at Newbridge Crescent for the next two decades.

Club operations manager Marc Hughes said: "The LTA's confidence in us is greatly appreciated and under their guidance we've made a big step.

"We were working over a number of months to sort a team and get the right products in to start the work.

"They also provided us with an interest-free loan for half of the work.

"As a club we're very proud that we've been able to achieve this alongside the LTA."

Lawn company Tiger Turf provided the artificial grass for the court. A modern 4G-style surface, specifically for tennis, was installed and the courts have been re-coloured with a blue finish and green surrounding border.

"We wanted to send a message as a club," Hughes said.

"We're showing that we're a modern family club.

"The place looks a lot more exciting.

"There's also been work on a nice viewing area. That certainly helped for the recent County Championships.

"We had to schedule very carefully as the work took place over a five-week period.

"But we had no play cancelled. Everything went ahead as per normal.

"The club stayed open and the deadlines were met. Those were our priorities."

The club now have 12 outdoor courts and three indoor courts.

Hughes added his delight at having the Shropshire-based Cabin to lead the official unveiling.

The manager said: "Cathie was quite keen to be in attendance.

"She and the LTA have backed us and revealed that we are a key club in the area.

"They recognise that we are important in getting people of the Midlands playing tennis and that is something we are proud of."

The club would also like to place on record their thanks to Platt Construction Limited and Luminance Pro Lighting Systems, who both had a part in the redevelopment.
