Brindley looking to lift Keys Park men

Hednesford Town first team coach Chris Brindley could stake a claim to return as manager of the Pitmen over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Brindley, who has managed the club previously, was put in charge following the shock departure to AFC Telford United of managerial duo Rob Smith and Larry Chambers.

In a Hednesford statement, they announced that Brindley would take the reins for the 'upcoming fixtures' until a permanent manager is announced.

Brindley would be in a good position should the Pitmen pick up maximum points against FC United of Manchester tomorrow and Worcester City on Bank Holiday Monday.

Town will welcome FC United, who were crowned champions of the Northern Premier Division last season, and regularly take upwards of 1,000 travelling fans on the road.

Target

Monday's opponents Worcester City yesterday announced that defender Darren Campion, who quit Keys Park for Aggborough in the summer, has left the Worcestershire side by mutual consent.

It is not yet known whether Smith and Chambers will look to target any of the Hednesford squad in attempt to bring them to the New Bucks Head.

On the pitch, Brindley will have a tough job in grounding the players ahead of the weekend's double-header, as the Pitmen look to build on their stop-start opening to this season's National League North, where they have secured five points from their opening five games.

Summer signing from Telford, John Disney may be available after struggling with a knock, while Adam Thomas and Paul McCone remain sidelined with injury.

On leaving Keys Park, Smith left with words of thanks and encouragement to all supporters.

"I'm certain Hednesford will have a good season," he said.

"They've had tough games and nobody has bowled them over. They're cracking lads and I wish them nothing but luck."
