Like buses as Paul hits two holes-in-one!

It's not every day you hit a hole-in-one. So imagine hitting two in a month and the second on your birthday?

That's exactly what 49-year-old golfer Paul Spooner did at Walsall Golf Club. Before then, Paul had never struck an ace in his life.

But after playing for 15 years, he struck gold twice in a matter of weeks.

Paul said: "I was ecstatic with the first one, but I couldn't believe I hit the second only weeks after, and on my birthday.

"I was elated as this is quite a rare thing for a golfer. I am the first person this year at Walsall to have got a hole-in-one.

"What's ironic is that shortly before leaving to go to the golf club, I opened my birthday cards and presents.

"One from a relative read 'Happy birthday Paul, I hope it's a good one and with another hole in one.' I've asked them for the lottery numbers now."

Paul hit his first on May 2 on the par-three 13th with his five iron from 175 yards.

The second, on his birthday on May 30, was with his seven iron on the170-yard, par-three fourth.

On both occasions he was playing in his club's monthly medal competition.

He added: "The general rule of thumb is that you have to buy everyone in the club-house a drink for your achievement.

"Luckily for me I have specialist golf insurance, which covers the bar bill for a hole in one, the best insurance I've ever taken out."

Paul started playing 15 years ago, after a friend asked him to play in a birthday competition in Shrewsbury.

He said he played casually for 10 years but became more serious about the game five years ago.

He has played at Walsall Golf Club for the last four years and has a handicap of 17.

Paul's favourite course is Augusta, in the USA, which was designed by the same man who designed Walsall Golf Club – Alister MacKenzie.
