Black Country Triathletes do the Ironman
Black Country Triathletes were out in force at the Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire with Chris Wood and Rob Kennard leading the way.
The duo were in fine form as they tackled the 70.3 mile endurance event with their performances earning qualification for 70.3 World Championships in Austria in August.
Wood came home 67th overall and 10th in the 40-44 age category, while Kennard claimed fourth place in the 50-54 age group.
Olympic triathlon silver medallist Javier Gomez won the race which also included celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey and former England footballer Danny Mills.
But while Wood is set to head across Europe later this summer, Kennard finds himself double booked.
Instead of Austria, Kennard will be flying across the other side of the world to represent GB in the Duathlon World Championships in Australia.
The pair's success continued an impressive roll of honour for the Wombourne-based club with Karen Richards, Pat Hackett, Chris Pedley having competed in world championship events.
Committee member Richards said: "It was a very successful day for the club. Rob and Chris were the stand-out performers and they are the ones pushing for success.
"But for most of our members it was more about enjoyment and it was a great day with the crowds making it a great atmosphere.
"Some of our members also had their pictures taken with Gordon Ramsey and Javier Gomez."
Black Country Triathletes was set up in the mid-80s and has a strong membership of 110 adults and a junior section of 55 ranging in age from eight to 16.
The club stage three races a year, all out of Wombounre Sports Centre.
