The day consisted of 19 teams, with varying levels of disability, taking part in seven-a-side matches.

It was overseen by former England, Villa and Wolves winger Tony Daley, who was present to hand individual medals to all 170 delighted competitors.

At the end of the day for Beach, who heads up the Birmingham Ability Counts League, it was all about the kids enjoying themselves.

She said: "I was there at 8am setting things up, but it was brilliant, it all went really well. the weather held out, even better than that, it was marvellous.

"I learnt a few things, a few things I'd do differently next year. Everyone left with a massive smile and a medal around their necks – they were over the moon when they found out they would each be awarded one."

Daley, who is the fitness coach with Wolves, had a huge influence on the afternoon's events.

She added: "He was brilliant, he spent a long time handing medals to each of them, and there were plenty!

"But he did so much more. He went around and spoke with each team, mingled with the parents and enjoyed it himself.

"It was well supported by the parents, but more so local businesses, which was a great surprise.

"There were loads of shops present from Merry Hill shopping centre who supported us and we were very grateful.

"All the kids were coming up to me at the end and hugging me, asking for it again next year. And, as always, I said yes. I'm sure it'll grow. I couldn't fault the whole day."

One of the day's other successes was helping raise funds for Help for Heroes through Jane's daughter, Autumn, who is joining the army.

Upwards of £150 was raised through donations and a tombola.

Kewford's refurbished base, Eagles Park, again plays host later this month when their renowned five-a-side tournament takes place.

There are already more than 120 clubs registered, teams coming from all over the region at all ages to take part on the weekend of June 27-28.

Age groups for girls range from under-9s to under-15s, with the boys from under-7s to under-18s.

Last year's tournament had more than 260 entries and each team participating will be guaranteed a minimum of four matches.
