Cipriani: Five other sportsmen in handcuffs
England rugby star Danny Cipriani's misdemeanour could see him miss out on the World Cup squad after just returning to the set-up.
The Sale Sharks fly-half was unhurt after a car crash in Chelsea shortly after 5am on Monday, but was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
It came hours after his man of the match performance against the Barbarians, in which he scored 33 points as England won 73-12.
Here, sports reporter Jon Radcliffe looks at five other sporting arrests that dominated the front pages.
1 Bobby Moore, 1970
With the England side looking to defend their World Cup title in Mexico in 1970, captain Bobby Moore found himself in the news for the wrong reasons.
As the Three Lions prepared in nearby Colombia, the West Ham man was arrested by Bogota police on suspicion of stealing a gold bracelet. Moore spent three days under house arrest before he was cleared.
2 Oscar Pistorius, 2013
Pistorius' story is one of the most remarkable in the history of sport.
The South African was the beacon of light for athletes with disabilities the world over, with the 'Blade Runner' being the first amputee runner to compete at an Olympic Games.
But now Pistorius is behind bars, jailed for five years last year for shooting dead girlfriend Reeva Steenkam on Valentine's Day, 2013.
Few have experienced such a sharp fall from grace as the multiple Paralympic champion.
3 OJ Simpson, 1994
In one of the biggest sporting criminal cases in history, former American footballer OJ Simpson was arrested on suspicion of the murders of ex-wife Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goodman on 17 June 1994.
The subsequent trial was televised for 134 days the following year, before the former Buffalo Bills running back was controversially found not guilty of the crimes on 3 October 1995.
He was, however, ordered to pay damages to the victims' families in a 1997 civil trial.
4 FIFA, 2015
The footballing world has been rocked by the recent findings of widespread corruption among the highest echelons of FIFA, the sport's governing body.
It came in relation to the awarding of the 2010, 2018 and 2022 World Cups to South Africa, Russia and Qatar respectively, as well as the 2011 FIFA presidential election.
Seven officials – including Jeffrey Webb – were arrested when police dramatically swooped on a hotel in Zurich.
5 Muhammad Ali, 1967
Regarded by many as the greatest boxer of all time, Ali was heavyweight champion of the world when he was arrested in 1967 for refusing to serve for the US Army in Vietnam.
It took just 21 minutes for a jury to find him guilty and he was sentenced to five years in prison and fined $10,000, as well as being banned from boxing for three years.
However, he spent no time in prison and was eventually cleared.
