Dean Smith has delivered a final rallying call on the eve of Walsall's big day at Wembley, declaring: "It's all about winning."

The Saddlers take on Bristol City in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final tomorrow (kick-off 3.30pm)

A travelling army of close to 30,000 supporters will be making the journey south to roar on their team, in the club's first ever game at the home of English football.

And while manager Smith expects them to have a good day out come what may, he and the players remain solely focused on victory.

"It has always been about winning for us," he said. "I said when we got there it would be a super day out for the board of directors, the owner, all the supporters, the first time at Wembley for 127 years.

"But for us it is about going and winning a trophy and we will be very disappointed if we don't win the trophy.

"Yes, it is a great achievement being the first manager to take them there but we want to win the trophy.

"I want to be sat on the coach on the way home with the JPT on the table."

The Saddlers go into the game firmly as underdogs against a Bristol team who sit proudly top of League One.

Smith is keen to banish the memories of his own disappointment at Wembley as a player, when he finished up on the losing side with Leyton Orient in the 1999 Fourth Division play-off final.

But he insists his own players will not be plagued by fear.

"Losing in any cup final is not nice," he said. "We don't want a part of that, we will go there to win.

"I think we have got a good chance as well, we know it is going to be tough, because they are a really good team.

"But I like the players we have got. I don't think this will faze them in any way shape or form."

Leading the team out at the home of English football will be a proud moment for 44-year-old Smith, who first joined the club as a teenage apprentice.

"This club gave me my first chance in football," he said.

"Sometimes you need a lucky break and this club gave me my lucky break.

"This is a small token I can give back."
