Fans who invaded pitch let club down, say Aston Villa
Aston Villa have said supporters who invaded the pitch have 'let both themselves and their club down'.
The club released a statement following the 2-0 victory over rivals West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup at Villa Park.
The win, which seals a semi-final place at Wembley, was marred by a pitch invasion before and after the final whistle.
In total, there were 17 arrests made by police, with officers also having to deal with trouble at the Witton Arms pub before the game.
In the statement, Aston Villa said: "The club does not condone supporters invading the field of play under any circumstances.
"We are very disappointed that what should have been a very memorable and proud moment for our fans was marred by the actions of those who could not control themselves.
"They have let both themselves and their club down.
"The club extends its sincere apologies to the Football Association, the West Bromwich Albion directors, manager Tony Pulis and all his staff and players."
