West Brom are braced for a 'Benteke barrage'

Captain Chris Brunt has warned West Brom to brace themselves for a 'Benteke barrage' in Saturday's Hawthorns derby with Aston Villa.

Giant Belgium striker Christian Benteke wreaked havoc in last season's Villa Park clash between the sides.

He netted the winning penalty after causing major problems for centre-backs Diego Lugano and Jonas Olsson in a 4-3 Villa win.

Gareth McAuley and Joleon Lescott look set to be charged with the task of subduing the Villa dangerman this weekend and Brunt, who is touch and go for the game because of injury, says his team-mates are in for a tough afternoon.

"We were all over the place last season," said Brunt. "It was 4-3 and probably could have been 10-10, it was just one of those games.

"On the night Benteke caused us all sorts of problems. He's a massive danger for them; he's a big player, so we're going to be very wary of that at the weekend after seeing the damage he caused last time.

"He's good in the air, he's a strong guy, he can run, and he can obviously score goals as well.

"He's a good all-round striker, so for them to lose him for so long recently was a big blow but to get someone like that coming back is going to give everyone around him a lift.

"He's someone we'll have to look at and try to contain him on Saturday because he is a handful.

"You've only got to watch the stuff from the games when we played him last year, especially the one at Villa Park – he caused mayhem, but I think the circumstances that night were a little bit different than what they'll be at the weekend.

"The onus is on us as the home side to go and win the game but Villa have been very dangerous on the counter-attack in the couple of games I've seen them which is something we're going to have to look at as well."
