Saddlers' Cain all set to extend loan stay
Walsall were today set to extend midfielder Michael Cain's loan stay from Leicester City.
A deal to keep the 19-year-old at the Banks's has been agreed and, barring any late paperwork issues, is all set to be rubber stamped in time for him to feature against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup tomorrow.
The Saddlers have lost just one of the six games in which Cain has played since joining on a one-month loan deal last month and manager Dean Smith has been hugely impressed with his performances.
"We have had a conversation with a Leicester and they have agreed it (extending the loan)" said Smith. "We are just waiting for paperwork to be done.
"He has got better and better since he has been here and, to be honest, I think our performances have got better and better too."
Smith agreed Cain's showing in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Peterborough at the Banks's Stadium was probably his best yet.
But it ended up a frustrating afternoon for the Saddlers who, without top scorer Tom Bradshaw, were unable to make the breakthrough to take all three points despite dominating parts of the game.
They have now scored just 14 goals in 17 league games but Jordan Cook believes it is only a matter of time before the goals start to flow.
"We are happy with the form," he said. "We thought Saturday was a massive opportunity to push on.
"We had quite a few chances around the box and on another day three or four of them go in and you are looking at a great result. There is going to be one time when we put quite a few goals past a team because everything will click at the right time."
"We created a lot of chances like normal but we just didn't put one away. You could see the lads when they came in after how disappointed they were.
"Nine times out of ten if we play like that we will beat most teams. It is just one of those games where that little bit of magic, or if it drops for you in the box we would have got the goal we needed."
