Saddlers striker Ashley Grimes in goal vow

New-boy Ashley Grimes today vowed to get his career back on track with Walsall – after admitting last season was a "bit of a disaster".

The 27-year-old forward signed a one-year deal with the Saddlers last month after leaving League Two Bury by mutual consent.

Grimes failed to score in 18 appearances for the Shakers and is brutally honest in his assessment.

"Last year was a bit of a disaster, to put it lightly," he said. "In the seasons before I had managed to get into double figures.

"But last year was a massive under-achievement. I want to put that right. I have personal targets, but I'll keep those to myself and we will see how it goes.

"There were three different managers – three injuries, obviously it is easy to stand here and make excuses. I have scored a few goals and hopefully I can get back on track and do that."

Grimes – who netted in Wednesday's 3-2 defeat to Leicester –

added: "It is very much based on a team effort at this club, I have noticed that already."
