The claret and blues boss wants the club to be able to splash the cash after a fourth season of battling relegation. He is waiting to speak to chairman Randy Lerner about the American's plans for the club, with a statement from the owner expected next week.
Ahead of tomorrow's season-finale at Tottenham, Lambert insisted Villa must be aware they could face the drop if they do not spend.
"It'll catch you at one point," he said. "No-one wants to be in that position. Four years it has been like think, not just the last two years."
