It was a day to forget for Wolves, who were shipping goals for fun as they slumped to a demoralising defeat at Newcastle, Mick McCarthy's men beaten 4-1 away from home today.

Birmingham took an almighty leap from the relegation places to 14th place after a home win against Bolton, a late reply couldn't halt Blues in a welcome victory for the Carling Cup winners.

Blues may still have a game in hand on all of the bottom half of the table but, if they lose again today, fears of the drop will be just as severe in the blue half of the city tonight.
Walsall's fight against relegation in League One will have to wait for another week, as the Saddlers next play Plymouth next Saturday.
