Walsall have clinched a deal to keep Wolves starlet David Davis on loan for another month.

The midfielder, who has spent the last four weeks at the Banks's Stadium, is due to stay with the bottom-of-the-table Saddlers until the home clash with Peterborough on November 2.

But the Premier League outfit have a 24-hour recall on the 19-year-old, whose intitial deal was due to expire after Saturday's visit of Exeter, with a midfield shortage looming.

Wolves are without suspended captain Karl Henry, injured Adlene Guedioura and Michael Mancienne, who is ineligible to face his parent club, for the clash at Chelsea on October 23.

But they still have David Edwards, Nenad Milijas and David Jones available.

Manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed the deal but admitted, after Henry's red card in the 2-0 defeat at Wigan on Saturday, he may need Davis as back-up.

He said: "What's happened to Karl Henry has got a bearing on our decision on David.

"I've spoken to our development coach Steve Weaver and it's David's last game this weekend.

"I'd already said to Walsall's manager Chris Hutchings that he could keep him for another month but with an immediate recall clause. We have agreed that with 'Hutch' and the paperwork has also been ratified.

"If after he plays at the weekend and I need him - even to be a substitute or part of the squad - then I can call him back.

"I said he could stay and play games there but they are having it tough as well.

"But Karl's situation affects things and I might end up calling him back."

Davis has impressed despite the Saddlers' woeful form during his spell, which has seen them pick up just one point in the five games he has played.

But McCarthy is delighted with the midfielder's development, after a similar spell in League Two with Darlington last season.

He said: "We're all pleased with David. He's done really well and he's done excellently since coming back from Darlington.

"He had a good pre-season, a good start to the season and I know Walsall are very pleased with him."

Davis' extension hands the beleaguered Saddlers a boost, after they slipped to the bottom of League One following their 1-0 defeat to Yeovil on Saturday.

They have received more good news, after Richard Taundry returned to light training following three weeks out yesterday.
