Walsall new-boy Jonathan Macken has confirmed he is winning his fitness battle and could make his debut at Brighton.

The new striker has been sidelined with a calf strain and sat out last Saturday's 2-1 win over Plymouth after signing 48 hours before the game.

But after a week's recovery the 32-year-old is positive he can play a part at the Withdean Stadium tomorrow.

He said: "I'm confident. You can't say 'I'm not sure' - you've got to be 100 per cent confident in your own head. We'll have to wait and see.

"I got a little niggle in my calf which was a little bit frustrating, as I was stop-start but I'm looking to be involved tomorrow."

Former £5million Manchester City man Macken penned a one-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months, last week and is itching for some action.

He said: "Having watched the game last Saturday it was a great performance. I just want to be involved and put my own stamp on things.

"You want to play as many games as you can, I've always wanted to be involved in every game and it's no different this season."

Macken reckons the Saddlers can make it three wins in a row with victory on the south coast.

He said: "Every team is a different challenge but it's something we believe we can do.

"I've been very impressed, the chances we created last week were very impressive and all we can do is build on it and try to get a similar performance, then the result will take care of itself."
