Walsall were today sweating on the fitness of Steve Jones with the winger set for a scan on his injured knee.
Walsall were today sweating on the fitness of Steve Jones with the winger set for a scan on his injured knee.
The 33-year-old limped out of Saturday's 2-1 win over Plymouth - with replacement Paul Marshall bagging the Saddlers' equaliser.
Jones had just recovered from a groin strain which hampered him last week before he twisted awkwardly just before half-time.
He was assessed yesterday and the club will send him for a scan early this week to discover the extent of the damage.
Jones' injury was the only downside to an impressive victory against the Pilgrims which made it six points from the first three games for Chris Hutchings' side.
Reuben Reid's debut winner gave the Saddlers back-to-back victories after they had fallen behind to Joe Mason's first-half opener.
And the Albion loanee was delighted after struggling to make the breakthrough at The Hawthorns.
He said: "I was pleased we got the point and pleased with my own performance. It's always nice to get an ovation from the fans. There was a feel-good factor when I arrived at the club and they made me feel very welcome."
Fellow new-boy Jon Macken missed out with a tight calf and boss Hutchings wasn't prepared to risk him as the 32-year-old didn't have a pre-season.
"He's a couple of weeks behind the rest of the lads," said Hutchings. "We managed to get an hour out of him against Coventry during the week, but he has been feeling his calf a little, so we will get him right before we put him in."
