Ryan McGivern today vowed to take Walsall to the next level and insisted there will be no excuse for play-off failure.

The left-back is adamant the Saddlers shouldn't be content with anything less than a successful promotion charge.

McGivern, on a season-long loan from Manchester City, only joined the Saddlers last month but said he can see the potential at the club.

"We shouldn't be content as a League One club, we want to push forward and have as much success as possible we should aim for the play-offs and have a good season," he said.

"Last year we came 10th and we have move forward, I can't see why the play offs aren't out the question. I've played in the Championship and League Two and I don't know much of League One yet but being here from the last month I know we can do well.

"I'm a Manchester City player but for this season I'm 100 percent with Walsall so I'll be giving everything for the club for them and me to have a good season.

"I hadn't played in League One before I came here, I had a spell at Morecambe two seasons ago but I was quite young and last season I was in the Championship with Leicester. That was good experience and League One is a fantastic level to play at as well."

And the 20-year-old said his experience on loan at Leicester, as the Foxes reached the Championship play-offs, will help the Saddlers.

He said: "Most of the season they were among the play-offs and hopefully we can get off to a good start, get some early wins and come Christmas we'll see where we are."
