Striker Eidur Gudjohnsen was today set to snub Birmingham for Fulham.

Blues have been chasing the former Chelsea forward in a straight race with the Cottagers, but the Iceland international looks to have chosen Fulham instead.

The Monaco striker will move to Craven Cottage on a season-long loan as new manager Mark Hughes' first signing.

It's a blow to Blues boss Alex McLeish - who takes his troops to Sunderland in Saturday's Premier League opener - after Kevin Phillips was ruled out for a "considerable time" with a torn thigh muscle.

Gudjohnsen finished last season on loan at Tottenhamm after failing to settle at Monaco following his switch from Barcelona last year.

Blues are also still waiting on an answer from AZ Alkmaar striker Moussa Dembele, with West Ham now believed to be interested.

But they are in talks with Italian World Cup winner Mauro Camoranesi, after the midfielder met with McLeish yesterday.

The 33-year-old Juventus veteran is believed to be keen on a move to England, but with a reported salary of 2.5million euros a year is seen as a gamble.

And McLeish will not give the go-ahead unless he is sure Camoranesi can add to his squad.

Camoranesi could be joined at St Andrew's by Juventus team-mate Fabio Grosso with Blues still in talks with the 32-year-old left-back, who they are hoping to snap up on a free.
