Birmingham have reportedly failed in a £1.6million bid to sign Nigeria World Cup striker Peter Odemwingie from Lokomotiv Moscow.
Blues have also been linked with £7million-rated Udinese marksman Antonio Di Natala.
But Lokomotiv want around a massive £8.5m for 28-year-old Odemwingie, who has a year left on his contract and has attracted interest from Everton, Fulham and French top-flight teams, while Italy World Cup star Di Natale's £50,000-a-week wages may also prove a stumbling block.
But boss Alex McLeish has targeted more firepower, in addition to £6million Serbia international recruit Nikolas Zigic.
