Walsall manager Chris Hutchings is hoping his side can carry their May momentum into next season.

The Saddlers will begin next term at home to Milton Keynes Dons, the same opponents who they beat 2-1 at the Banks's Stadium on the final day of last season.

And Hutchings is hoping the winning feeling from the match in May will help his side begin the new campaign on a high note on August 7.

The manager said: "It's ironic that we're starting the season against the team we faced on the last day of last season.

"Both teams will have a number of new faces in the side since that game but, obviously, we're looking to kick the season off with a win.

"We have a good record on the opening day of the season. Someone told me we hadn't lost since 2002, so hopefully we can maintain that record.

"It was an excellent end to last season for us and we want to build on that momentum.

"Milton Keynes will be tough opponents and, with it only being an hour or so away, should bring a good following.

"That opening day is the date we're all working towards."
