Walsall begin their quest for promotion glory at home to Milton Keynes Dons after next season's League One fixtures were announced.
The Saddlers, who finished the last campaign with a 2-1 win over the Dons at the Banks's Stadium, then go to Brentford on August 14 before the visit of relegated Plymouth and a trip to Brighton.
Walsall go to Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day – a trip they should have made last season before the weather claimed the fixture – and host newly-promoted Notts County on New Year's Day.
But the Saddlers face a tough run-in with a trip to Plymouth on April 9 and the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on April 23.
They finish their home campaign against Charlton on April 30, before a final-day trip to title favourites Southampton.
Assistant boss Martin O'Connor has targeted improving on last season's 10th placed finish.
He said: "We are looking forward to pitting our wits against some big sides in League One this year, as we aim to continue the progress that we have made.
"It will be good for the fans if we can get off to a winning start on home soil, we are already focused on getting ourselves right for the game.
"Any first game of the season is tough, whether it be at home or away, but hopefully we can continue our good run of opening day results.
"MK Dons will be strong this year and they will be determined to improve on last season's performance.
"The arrival of Dietmar Hamann as player/coach will be a big boost to them, but we are looking forward to the game."
Beaten play-off finalists Swindon visit the Banks's on September 18, before the Saddlers make the return journey on March 5.
Chris Hutchings' men go to League One newboys Rochdale on September 11 and Dagenham and Redbridge on October 16.
Their trip to Tranmere on January 8 could be postponed as it is also FA Cup third round weekend but the Saddlers will have to win rounds one and two – on November 6 and 27 respectively – first.
They have also been drawn at home to Tranmere in the Carling Cup first round, with the game set to be played the week commencing August 9.
