Albion fans' favourite Youssouf Mulumbu has thanked the club's supporters for roaring the team all the way back to the Premier League.

The DR Congo international also saluted fans for composing a terrace song in his honour comparing him to Brazilian ace Kaka.

Mulumbu added the song, which has become popular among Baggies fans in the Smethwick End at the Hawthorns, is "like a trophy." The song about him ends "he comes from Africa, he's better than Kaka!"

The midfielder has become a cult figure with Baggies fans and was a runner-up in the players' Player of the Year poll for his solid displays in a holding role.

He said: "It is a very hard job, because you have to work hard and never stop. But I'm happy because when I run the fans sing and clap for me.

"I'm very glad. I like the song. It is like a trophy to me. When the fans sing it means they see the job I'm doing for the team. I feel good about that.

"Even when it was hard and we lost games at home, the supporters were behind us.

"We needed them and I expect them to be there for us again next season."

Mulumbu joined Albion initially on loan from Paris St Germain in January 2009, but injuries prevented him playing a big role under Tony Mowbray.

But, since signing permanently last summer, the 23-year-old has played 46 games and scored three times.

He said: "I started 38 games and it's been a long season. When people told me we'd be playing virtually every Tuesday and Saturday I said 'it's a good thing.'

"But after going through it, it is very hard because sometimes you're injured or tired.

"That's why everyone is happy we got promoted because we worked hard - and I think we deserve it."
