Walsall boss Chris Hutchings remains optimistic Dwayne Mattis will be able to avoid surgery.
The midfielder has been dogged by his troublesome Achilles all year and has sat out the last three games.
But he is due back in training this week ahead of the final game at home to MK Dons. And Hutchings is hopeful the 28-year-old won't go under the knife.
He said: "I hope not, that's always the last thing he needs, he just needs to get through the treatment he's having."
