Boss Chris Hutchings today insisted Walsall have proved the doubters wrong and this season shows the club are moving forward under his reign.

The Saddlers sit 12th in League One, eyeing a 10th-placed finish, ahead of the final three games- starting with tomorrow's visit of Hartlepool.

They are five points off 10th-placed Brentford so must win at least two to overhaul the Bees and claim their highest finish since 2004.

Hutchings says this season has been a success.

He said: "The 11 teams above us are bigger and below us there are bigger clubs, that's fact. We're second bottom of the attendance league, at the start of the season where did the bookies put us? They aren't normally wrong, so we're doing alright.

"Last year we finished 13th and you've always got to look to improve. We just want to do the best we can. You have to finish as high as possible and look to take the club forward."
