Birmingham were swept away at Eastlands after falling to their heaviest defeat of the season at Manchester City.
Blues were already trailing to Carlos Tevez's penalty and a Nedum Onuoha strike before Cameron Jerome's reply, but went on to concede another goal to Onuoha either side of an Emmanuel Adebayor brace.
The game's turning point came on 38 minutes when defender Scott Dann bundled over Adebayor in the area, with Tevez stepping up to convert the spot-kick for the home side.
Defender Onuoha nodded home a second goal two minutes later, before Jerome used his loaf to give Blues hope by pulling one back on 42.
But less then 60 seconds later they were behind by two goals again, when the defence went missing for Adebayor to tap home a Craig Bellamy cross.
Manchester City went two better in the second-half to consign Alex McLeish to their worst day yet back in the Premier League, with Onuoha and Adebayor breaking free to score solo efforts on 74 and 78 minutes respectively.
