We must do better warns Gray
Walsall winger Julian Gray has admitted the whole squad must take responsibility for their poor form but is baffled by their recent performances.
Walsall winger Julian Gray has admitted the whole squad must take responsibility for their poor form but is baffled by their recent performances.
The Saddlers travel to rock-bottom Stockport County on Saturday after back-to-back defeats against Southend and Exeter, the Hatters' relegation rivals.
They have slipped to 14th in League One following just four wins in 19 games and Gray warns there can be no more excuses.
He said: "I can't put my finger on it. Collectively we need to put it right. We haven't done enough and we need to do more.
"We need to get together and be hard to beat first and foremost, we are giving teams head starts and making it difficult for ourselves. We need to get rid of these mistakes and then we have a good basis.
"This inconsistency thing needs to stop. We've got to collectively do better."
The 30-year-old believes if the Saddlers take the game to their opponents they will reap the rewards.
He said: "We need to put teams under pressure, if we do that they are going to start giving us the ball nine times out of 10.
"We're always being put under pressure, when our back four get the ball we haven't got time to take two or three touches.
"We perhaps need to keep a few more men up and start higher up the pitch."
