Walsall defender Jamie Vincent has questioned the team's mentality and warned of future embarrassment if they don't address their state of mind.

The Saddlers travel to third-from-bottom Exeter on Saturday in the wake of Tuesday's woeful 3-0 defeat at Southend, who moved to within a point of League One safety with the win.

Chris Hutchings' men complete their clashes with the bottom five in the next four games with Stockport, Wycombe and Tranmere also on the horizon.

Vincent believes they must change their mindset to succeed.

He said: "It must be a mentality thing when we go to a team who are struggling. Maybe we think we can turn up and not really put too much effort into getting a result.

"On Tuesday we didn't turn up. Exeter are in exactly the same position and are going to be fighting for their lives like Southend were.

"We need to get into our minds now that it's going to be the same game. It's going to be a battle and we need points just as much as the next team.

"There's a fine line in this league. There's not a lot of difference between the top and bottom. It's who turns up on the day.

"After Clayton McDonald got sent off on Tuesday I don't think we stuck together as a team. When one person is in trouble you should have two or three team-mates there to help you out."
