Birmingham gained a small measure of revenge on their FA Cup conquerors with a Premier League win against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Cameron Jerome's bagged a brace before the break with his first goals in 10 games to put Blues in command at half-time, with Nwankwo Kanu's reply in second-half stoppage time scant consolation for Pompey.

The home side still have an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley to look forward after beating their visitors on Saturday, but Alex McLeish's men had the last laugh after consigning the bottom club to their 19th Premier League defeat of the season.

Jerome just took 16 minutes to silence the home crowd with a drilled effort under goalkeeper David James, after the striker was first to latch onto Christian Benitez's ball.

The outstanding Benitez was again the provider in style for the second goal three minutes before the break, with a backheel that sent Jerome racing clear to beat James low for a second time.

Pompey could find no way through in standard time of the second-half and when they did find the net it was two minutes into stoppage time, Kanu with a trademark header from Jamie O'Hara's cross.

But Blues held on for another three points, and climb a place to eighth.
