Birmingham are out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage after falling to Frederic Piquionne's second-half double at Portsmouth.

Pompey's on-loan French striker pounced twice in four second-half minutes to knock Blues out of the competition, with a big shout for a goal going against the visitors late on when Liam Ridgewell had a goal ruled out.

By then Alex McLeish's men had been left with all to do, starting when Piquionne prodded ball home to open the scoring in the 67th minute, after goalkeeper Joe Hart and Scott Dann has got themselves in a right old muddle to present the striker with an open net.

Four minutes later Pompey went two up with a good finish from Piquionne, who picked the ball up from Jamie O'Hara and turned Roger Johnson before placing a low shot past Hart in the away goal.

But the away side had a shout for pulling a goal back shortly after, when Ridgewell's close-range header appeared to go over the line before being scrambled clear by goalkeeper David James.

And with that Blues were out but a chance for revenge is forthcoming, with the two teams set to do it all again at Fratton Park in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
