Aston lightweight Chris Truman will finally make it to the ball - as part of the claret and blue faithful cheering on Villa at Wembley in the Carling Cup final.

Truman was left with a dilemma at the end of last month as his beloved team booked their place in the club's first major final for a decade - with the date set for the same day he was down to box at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

It looked to all intents and purposes as though all was lost, even after light, half-serious banter with promoter Paul 'PJ' Rowson about moving the show to another Sunday.

But to the 25-year-old's surprise, the power-that-is went from boss to Father Christmas, granting his wish by moving the show to March 14.

And 'the Trumanator' will be back - but only after joining the claret and blue sea in the capital with cup holders Manchester United in the other corner tomorrow.

He said: "I will be at Wembley, I am going with my mates and I am hoping it will be a good day out!

"I was joking around with 'PJ' that he would have to move the show and I didn't think he would, especially when he said 'I will just move everything for you then Chris.'

"The next thing I knew the date had been changed, which was a lot better for me obviously. It's not just going to the game, I would have had no chance of selling tickets to anybody in Aston for a fight on cup final day!

"If it had come down to it boxing comes first, but I would have had to think."

Truman has been paired with the experienced Johnny Greaves in the re-arranged show giving up height and weight to his opponent, who is a natural light welter.

But the Aston ace plans to use his lighter load to roll that little bit swifter than the punches.

He said: "I will be ready, Johnny is a bigger lad than me but if he can't catch me, he can't hit me. I will rely on my speed and will be looking to box, maybe I have showboated in previous fights but I will be taking no chances this time.

"It only takes that one punch to change everything."

For tickets, contact promoter Paul 'PJ' Rowson on 07976 283 157.

The entire 12-fight show will also be broadcast online live on pay-per-view at a cost of just £2.99, through Hatton TV at www.brandhatton.com.
