Walsall featherweight Steve Gethin faces his day of reckoning in his bid to become the third boxing brother from the family to lift a title.

The 31-year-old has had to watch as elder sibling Darren, a former Midlands welterweight title holder, and younger brother Martin, the current and two-time English lightweight champion, have brought belts to the clan in recent years.

Now the last-but-one Gethin will get his chance at Birmingham's Holiday Inn on Monday night for the vacant Midlands title, going up against Leicester's unbeaten 22-year-old Del Rogers.

And, after 68 professional bouts to get his far, the one-time British Masters challenger may not get another opportunity.

But Steve has promised to take his fledgling opponent, who has only had five fights and has never been past six rounds, to school over 10 sessions in the second city.

Gethin said: "It's about time I got my shot, both of my brothers have held titles, I have had my chances before but it has just never come off for me. It's finally going to happen now, it's a good title to hold and at 31 I might not get another chance. All I want to do is to win a belt before I retire.

"I know all about Del, I have seen the lad box before and he will know this is a big chance for him. He's an alright boxer, but we will see how good he really is when he gets into the ring."
