Goal hero Clayton McDonald today urged Walsall to forget about their historic victory at Leeds and labelled it as just another game.

The Saddlers claimed a 2-1 win at Elland Road last night – their first ever – to end Leeds' unbeaten home league record which stretched back to January 2009.

United had put the Saddlers under constant pressure but McDonald's 80th minute header was adjudged to have crossed the line.

And the defender insists he and his team-mates cannot dwell on their success and will instead focus on Saturday's visit of Brentford.

He said: "This is behind us now, it's done and we have to forget about it. It's good for the fans and it's great for us but it's about results and we want to push on and do well for the club.

"It's another day and another game. Tomorrow is a different day and we have to focus on Saturday.

"The win has come because when we play against big teams we put on big performances, but if we want to do well then we must beat everyone."

Leeds claimed McDonald's header hadn't gone in after keeper Casper Ankergren fumbled it but the 21-year-old is adamant the goal, which lifted the Saddlers to 10th in League One, was good.

"Of course it was over the line, it hit the back of the net in my eyes!" he said.

"It was my first professional goal and I'm glad we won. Everyone dug in and grafted and we deserved the win. It was good, I had a lot of messages on my phone. A goal is a goal and we got three points."

Dwayne Mattis had put the Saddlers ahead just 60 seconds after the break before Birmingham loanee Gary McSheffrey equalised after his cross deceived Clayton Ince.

And McDonald has urged his colleagues to have the courage in their convictions and wipe out their inconsistencies.

He said: "We're either very good or very poor. We need to try to get the ball down and play. In training the ball pops around but in games you get a bit nervous and don't want to be the one who makes a mistake.

"We've got so much character in the dressing room to come back and do that after losing at Oldham. We all grafted and got on with it."
