Birmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson has yet to decide on whether to make an international comeback with Scotland - but will not risk his future at St Andrew's.
The 32-year-old has held talks with Scotland chief Craig Levein, who wants to end his 10 month exile from the national team, after being banned by former boss George Burley last April for serious breaches of discipline.
But Blues boss Alex McLeish warned last week Ferguson must consider his club career if returning for the national side and the midfielder needs time to do this.
He said: "I've still got a lot of thinking to do and I'm nowhere near a decision. I'm fully committed to Birmingham and I want to give them everything. They took a chance on me and I owe them everything.
"I've got to take them into consideration and it will be a long time before I consider what to do. If it means I go away, come back here and then don't play then there's no chance of going back."
But Ferguson, who has 45 caps, admitted Levein was the only man who could tempt him back into the international fold.
He said: "As soon as Craig got announced as manager I said he was the right man for the job. He's the only man I would consider coming back for. There's still loads to discuss but the meetings were good and he's a guy I respect."
Ferguson will sit down with McLeish, a former Scotland boss, before making his final decision.
He said: "I need to sit down with the manager and go through a lot of things. There are things I've got to take into consideration and I've got to be honest, he's given me the chance to come here and play.
"I need to sit down with him and see what his thoughts are."
