Top scorer Steve Jones is set to hand Walsall a major boost by returning to face Norwich on Tuesday.

The winger, who has nine goals, has been out for over a month with a groin injury but because of the big freeze has only missed three games.

Jones returned to training this week and boss Chris Hutchings hasn't ruled out a comeback against the Canaries.

He said: "There is a possibility he could be involved on Tuesday. It's good to have him back and it's fortunate for him he didn't miss many games.

"Steve is desperate to get back. He obviously wants to play and was as baffled as anyone else as to the injury he had, but hopefully the injection has really improved it.

"We know he is going to get a few little aches and be sore from the work he is doing now. He's had to do a mini-pre-season working in the gym and getting back into the full swing of joining us again.

"I don't want to say he will definitely be in, in case he has a setback in one way or another.

"But hopefully he shouldn't be too far away."

Hutchings knows the Saddlers need their star man back, after slipping 10 points adrift of the League One play-offs.

He said: "Steve is our leading goal-scorer, it was a shame he got injured and has been out for such a long time.

"Any team will miss their top goalscorer and he was in a rich vein of form when he got injured."
