Walsall left-back Netan Sansara wants to ditch his youthful image after admitting he is naive.
The 20-year-old is confident of becoming a fixture in the Saddlers' team for the rest of the season and beat off competition from Jamie Vincent, starting at home to Brighton on Saturday.
Temperatures are set to rise in the next 48 hours and the club are confident the clash with the Seagulls will go ahead.
Sansara wants to keep Vincent sidelined but believes his inexperience sometimes counts against him.
He said: "I'm raw and very naive at times, all I can do is keep learning and playing my football to become a better player.
"At the moment I've been doing alright and finding my feet again, so hopefully I can stay in the team until the end of the season."
Sansara will come under pressure from fit again Vincent, should Saturday's game go ahead but the England under-19 international will use Vincent's experience to his advantage.
He said: "Jamie is a top player with plenty of experience and I can only learn from someone like him. When he played centre half against Leyton Orient I found he was passing on good information to me and I felt at ease with it.
"I know I'm on four bookings so there's going to be time when I come out of the team. But that's when I have to show character and the belief I can do it again.
"I had seven starts last year and I've made 11 this season. It's an improvement, I've reached my targets and now I have to set more targets to stay in the team a bit longer."
