Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today told Greg Halford to follow the example of Kevin Foley to win his way back into favour.

Halford has slipped from the reckoning in recent games since being taken off after just half an hour against Birmingham and has only started one of the last seven games.

The exile of the £2m summer signing has prompted talk of yet another move for the nomadic 25-year-old, who has already played for six clubs, including two on loan.

One of those – Sheffield United – have been mentioned as potential suitors again this month.

Halford has pledged his future to Wolves, insisting he wants to play his way back into favour.

In his absence, McCarthy has instead turned to Kevin Foley to fill the problem wide right position.

The Republic of Ireland international has responded to the challenge to be one of team's best players in recent games.

And McCarthy says Halford should be looking to follow in Foley's footsteps to win back his place.

"How can any one of them get in the team – whether it be Greg, David Jones or George Elokobi?" said the boss.

"All they can do is train hard and when the opportunity arises, they have to grab it just like Kevin Foley did.

"Kev has been different class.

"If I decide to change someone and that someone plays well, they stay in the team. Kev has been excellent. He's played very well in all of the games."
