Walsall's game at Rovers off

Walsall's League One clash at Bristol Rovers has been postponed because of a frozen pitch.

The decision followed an early morning inspection at the Memorial Ground, with the game set to kick-off at 3pm today.

Rovers officials were hoping that a thaw after a week of freezing temperatures would enable them to stage the game.

But the pitch was badly cut-up from last weekend's rugby match and covered in snow before it could be treated. That has prevented the Rovers groundstaff treating the surface to get it ready for the match.

While Rovers will be frustrated at missing out on one of the prime attendance days of the football schedule, the impact for Walsall is not quite so bad.

It gives boss Chris Hutchings more time to get his top scorer Steve Jones fit, after a two-match absence because of a groin injury.

Jones was touch and go for this game, but will now be more optimistic of being fit for the visit of Norwich on Monday.

Walsall, having had the Bescot surface covered during the freeze, are confident that game will go ahead.

Rotherham's League Two game with Darlington is also off.
