The Saddlers are battling to break into the League One play-offs with the second most youthful squad in the division - after rock bottom Stockport.

They meet three of their promotion rivals over Christmas and new year in Bristol Rovers, Norwich and Charlton and Hutchings says they have been exposed this season.

"We're lacking experience in certain areas and you can't bring young players through all the time," he said.

"That's what you're looking for, you're looking for players who have experience. At certain times we're naive. Netan (Sansara), Manny (Smith) and (Mark) Hughes have been at times.

"Hughesy wears his heart on his sleeve and wants to win every ball but you can't win everything all the time. It's about having the knowledge to see the danger and one or two times we've been caught out."

Defender Rhys Weston agreed with his boss and believes the Saddlers will need all their experience to have a successful Christmas.

He said: "With the congestion of fixtures it's not going to make or break the season but if we do pick up a few wins of the festive period then we're going to be in a healthier position than we are now."
