Walsall's striking plans a secret

Walsall boss Chris Hutchings is keeping his striking plans secret as the manager plots a raid on Millwall.

The Saddlers chief has to decide who will deputise for the suspended Troy Deeney at the New Den tomorrow, with Sam Parkin or Alex Nicholls in the running.

The pair have been restricted to brief substitute appearances because of the form of Darren Byfield and Deeney, but Hutchings is enjoying his selection poser.

He said: "Sam has been on form and scoring goals but Alex has got good movement and set up a few goals, it's a nice problem to have.

"We don't get many headaches because we've always had a small squad to work with but that's how it is. You need one or two who are more versatile than others to change things if we need to. It's a nice luxury to have.

"We've got Steve Jones who can play there as well, which we tend to forget so we've got options we can work with. Whoever goes in we know they will give 100 per cent because they want to keep the shirt from Troy."

A win could push the Saddlers into the top six and Hutchings reckons his team must hit back from last weekend's 3-1 defeat against Southampton to avoid being dragged into mid-table.

He said: "It's a bit like the Premier League when you've got the top four or five and then a band of 12.

"We've opened a nice little gap but we know if we lose the next couple of games and other teams win it changes again. We'll be fighting all season to try find that little bit of consistency which we had found and we've got to get back.

"We've done quite well on our travels but there are no gimmies. You have to go out and earn it. Sometimes you get good games and sometimes scrappy ones but the most important thing is to win."
